Heather’s Birthday Week Reviews: Birthday Jam 27.1 @ Grotto Lounge

Protocol Lifestyle Events and MKV Music Radio hosted Birthday Jam 27.1 at Grotto Lounge last night, Thursday November 22, 2012. It wasn’t a birthday jam for me, but I celebrated with Mike Vieira, Dj Sumation and Dean Johnson anyway!  Diet cokes all night, baby!

My boyfriend escorted me downstairs at Grotto Lounge just after my birthday was official at around 12:20am. SO, if you want to get technical I was there November 23.

Familiar faces were milling about and Follow Me was playing. Marshall Dragun was on the decks. I have never met or heard him play before so It was cool to hear someone new.  The rest of his set was full of more smooth and a bit soulful deep house. A very nice soundtrack to the people laughing and talking in small groups with each other.

If you haven’t been to Grotto Lounge before, its a very cute spot downstairs. Perfect for small parties.

Jackie Spade came on next. YAY! THIS girl can throw it down. She plays deep house that is a little on the bumpy side. One of the tunes she dropped Frontin’ by Catz n Dogz…Ella D played this song on Tuesday as well! Wicked track. To the back, to the front, to the side, go high….unf unf unf!!

There were a lot of Djs at the request of the birthday boys so everyone had a short set.  Bones McLeod stepped up next. This MAY have been the first time I heard him play, which is awesome because I know he can spit some bad ass rhymes.

What a pleasant surprize! He wasn’t just dropping deep house tracks but a ‘lil breaks and booty house. My favorite track he played? Mattie Safer’s Is that Your Girl. According to Bones McLeod its one of his secret tracks he carries around in his back pocket. Shhhh, don’t tell anyone.

It was nice to see some friends theres, GCue was representin’ as well as the lovely Jackie from StudioFeed and I finally got to meet Mike Vieira‘s girlfriend. Birthday wishes were a flowin’!

It was Jeff Breen‘s turn and the dancefloor was warmed up nicely by Bones McLeod. I am a Jeff Breen fan. He knows how to move a dance floor and doesn’t hold back on the lyrical tracks. Reckless With Your Love by Azari & III had me singin’ along and he also dropped Masquarade which Karlene Oliver and I broke it down to.

We left just as Mike Vieira started to play. I didn’t know he dj’d! Obviously I’m not paying close enough attention.

Here’s Mike throwing it down on MKV.

Awesome little birthday jam.

Dance dance dance,

Jeather
